Osteopathy in Chelsea, SW10

Osteopathy is a regulated, hands-on approach to diagnosing and treating problems with muscles, joints and the wider musculoskeletal system. It is one of the most widely used forms of complementary medicine in the UK, with over 10 million patient visits per year.

Osteopaths work on the principle that the body functions as a whole unit — that structure governs function, and that the body has a natural capacity to heal itself when restrictions are removed. Treatment combines joint mobilisation, soft tissue work, manipulation and postural advice, tailored to each patient.

Conditions we treat

  • Lower back pain and sciatica
  • Neck pain and whiplash
  • Headaches arising from the neck
  • Frozen shoulder
  • Hip, knee and ankle pain
  • Arthritic and joint pain
  • Sports injuries
  • Repetitive strain injury
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Circulatory problems
  • Digestive discomfort
  • Pelvic girdle pain in pregnancy
No GP referral needed. You can book directly. Osteopathy is statutorily regulated — it is a criminal offence to practise without registration with the General Osteopathic Council (GOsC).

What to expect at your first appointment

1
Case history — full medical and lifestyle history, including any relevant scans or investigations.
2
Postural assessment — observation of how you sit, stand and move to identify structural patterns.
3
Hands-on treatment — soft tissue massage, stretching, articulation and where appropriate, manipulation.
4
Aftercare advice — exercises, ergonomic adjustments and self-management strategies.
How many sessions will I need?
Most acute problems show significant improvement within 3–6 sessions. Long-standing or chronic conditions may benefit from a longer course. Your osteopath will discuss a realistic plan at your first appointment.
Does osteopathy hurt?
Most techniques feel comfortable and are tailored to your tolerance. You may feel some short-term soreness after treatment, similar to post-exercise aching, which typically settles within 24–48 hours.
Is osteopathy safe during pregnancy?
Yes. Philip Waldman and Martin Sheerin have extensive experience treating pregnancy-related pain including lower back pain, pelvic girdle pain and sciatica. Techniques are adapted throughout each trimester.
Is osteopathy covered by health insurance?
Many private health insurance policies cover osteopathy, including Bupa, AXA Health and Vitality. We recommend checking your policy before booking.

Specialist technique within osteopathy

Cranial osteopathy in Chelsea, SW10

Cranial osteopathy is a refined osteopathic technique that uses extremely gentle touch to assess and treat disturbances in the rhythmic movement of the body’s fluids and tissues. Despite its subtlety, it can be profoundly effective for a wide range of conditions, from newborn babies to the elderly.

The technique is based on the principle that all body tissues have a subtle rhythmic movement — approximately 14–21 times per minute — which can be felt and influenced by a trained hand. Restrictions in this rhythm, often stemming from birth, injury or life stress, can affect overall health and tissue vitality.

Who is cranial osteopathy suitable for?

Newborns and babies, Children, Pregnancy, Headaches and migraines. Jaw problems (TMJ), Sinusitis, Stress, fatigue and Post-surgical recovery and just some of the conditions I can help with.

Philip Waldman D.O. FSCCO has extensive experience in cranial osteopathy, working with babies, pregnant women, and adults of all ages. He is a Fellow of the Sutherland Cranial College of Osteopathy (FSCCO), one of the leading post-graduate cranial bodies in the UK.

For babies: Philip recommends that all babies receive at least one cranial osteopathic check-up, regardless of birth type, as all births involve some degree of compressive force on the skull and pelvis.
Is cranial osteopathy the same as craniosacral therapy?
They share similar principles but are different. Cranial osteopathy is practised only by osteopaths with full medical training (4-year degree). Craniosacral therapy is a separate, non-regulated therapy. Philip practises cranial osteopathy as part of his registered osteopathic practice.
Is cranial osteopathy safe for newborns?
Yes. The technique uses extremely light, gentle touch — no manipulation or sudden movements. Many parents bring babies in within days of birth. Treatment is adapted entirely to the size and sensitivity of the infant.

Acupuncture in Chelsea, SW10

Acupuncture is a system of medicine originating in China over 2,500 years ago, involving the insertion of very fine sterile needles into specific points to regulate the flow of Qi and stimulate the body’s own healing response. NICE guidelines recommend acupuncture for chronic primary pain.

At Chelsea Natural Health, treatment follows Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) principles — diagnosis is made through pulse and tongue assessment, observation and detailed case history, with a personalised point prescription for your individual constitution.

Conditions treated with acupuncture

  • Chronic and acute pain
  • Anxiety and depression
  • Insomnia
  • Fertility support
  • Digestive problems (IBS, nausea)
  • Hay fever and allergies
  • Headaches and migraines
  • Menstrual problems
  • Pregnancy support
  • Post-surgical recovery
  • Fatigue and burnout
  • High blood pressure
Does acupuncture hurt?
Acupuncture needles are hair-thin — far finer than injection needles. Most people feel nothing on insertion, or a mild sensation of dull aching, tingling or warmth, which is a positive sign the point has been activated.
How many sessions will I need?
For acute conditions, improvement is often noticeable within 4–6 sessions. Chronic conditions typically require a longer course. Your practitioner will discuss expectations at your first appointment.
Is acupuncture safe during pregnancy?
Yes, when performed by a qualified practitioner. Acupuncture is widely used for fertility support, pregnancy discomforts and birth preparation. Certain points are avoided during pregnancy and your practitioner will adapt treatment accordingly.

Facial rejuvenation acupuncture in Chelsea

Facial rejuvenation acupuncture is a genuine Traditional Chinese Medicine treatment — not a cosmetic procedure — that uses fine needles on specific facial and constitutional points to stimulate collagen production, improve muscle tone and address underlying imbalances contributing to skin ageing.

Unlike injectable cosmetic treatments, facial acupuncture works holistically: you receive both a targeted facial treatment and a constitutional body treatment in the same session.

Reduces fine linesImproves skin toneLifts and firmsReduces puffinessBrightens eyesBoosts collagenNo downtime
How many sessions are needed to see results?
Most people notice improvement from the first session. A course of 10–12 weekly treatments is recommended for optimal results, followed by monthly maintenance. Results are cumulative.
Is it painful or does it leave marks?
Needles used on the face are extremely fine. Most clients find the treatment deeply relaxing. Very occasionally a tiny bruise may appear, which resolves within a few days — this risk is discussed at your consultation.

Japanese bodywork · 3,500 years of practice

Shiatsu in Chelsea, SW10

Shiatsu — literally “finger pressure” in Japanese — is a form of therapeutic bodywork rooted in over 3,500 years of Asian medicine. Unlike massage, Shiatsu is performed fully clothed on a floor futon or table, using rhythmic pressure, stretching and joint mobilisation to restore the body’s energetic balance.

Shiatsu addresses physical, emotional and psychological health simultaneously. Sessions are deeply relaxing yet can also be invigorating, depending on your constitution and needs.

What does Shiatsu treat?

  • Stress and anxiety
  • Muscle and joint pain
  • Arthritis
  • Menstrual irregularities
  • Sports injuries
  • Postural problems
  • Pregnancy discomfort
  • Emotional difficulties
  • Low energy and fatigue
  • Digestive problems
  • Insomnia
  • Headaches
What to wear: Wear loose, comfortable cotton clothing to your Shiatsu appointment. Treatment is given fully clothed. A floor futon is the traditional setting but a table is also available.
How is Shiatsu different from massage?
Shiatsu is performed fully clothed with no oils. While massage works primarily on muscles through kneading and effleurage, Shiatsu works along energy meridians using sustained pressure, stretching and rotation. It addresses energetic patterns as well as physical tension.
Is Shiatsu safe during pregnancy?
Yes — Jan Murphy has specialist training in Shiatsu for pregnancy and the postnatal period. Regular sessions can help manage the physical and emotional changes throughout pregnancy. Certain pressure points are avoided during the first trimester.

Multiple disciplines available

Massage therapy in Chelsea, SW10

We offer a range of massage treatments at Chelsea Natural Health, from deep tissue and sports massage to Indian head massage, Thai yoga massage and acupressure. All treatments are tailored to your needs and delivered by experienced therapists.

Deep tissue massage

Deep tissue massage works on the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue to release chronic tension, break down adhesions and restore healthy muscle function. It leaves you both physically relieved and deeply relaxed. Treatment can be combined with Reiki or Craniosacral Therapy for an even deeper therapeutic experience.

Sports massage

Sports massage helps alleviate the stress and tension that builds up in soft tissues as a result of physical activity. It benefits not only athletes but anyone carrying occupational, postural or emotional tension. Simon Heale has run eight London Marathons and several ultramarathons, giving him exceptional practical knowledge of running injuries, training preparation and maintenance.

Indian head massage

Based on the ancient Ayurvedic healing system, Indian head massage uses firm yet gentle rhythmic movements on the head, face, neck and shoulders to release accumulated stress and tension. It is deeply calming, relieves headaches and eyestrain, and leaves you energised and better able to concentrate.

Thai yoga massage

Thai yoga massage uses rhythmic manipulation, passive stretches and applied yoga to stimulate and balance the flow of energy through the body’s Sen lines. It is performed fully clothed on a mat, and is particularly beneficial for circulatory problems, lack of joint mobility and muscular stiffness.

5,000-year-old healing art

Reflexology in Chelsea, SW10

Reflexology is a natural therapy based on the principle that specific areas of the feet and hands correspond to every organ, gland and system of the body. By applying precise pressure to these reflex points, a reflexologist encourages the body to restore its own natural balance.

Reflexology is deeply relaxing and can support wellbeing across a wide range of physical and emotional conditions. It is suitable for people of all ages, including during pregnancy.

Stress and tensionHormonal imbalancesDigestive issuesInsomniaPregnancy supportPalliative careGeneral wellbeing
What does a reflexology session involve?

Is reflexology safe in pregnancy?
Yes. Both Halina High and Adriana Pop have experience with prenatal reflexology. We recommend waiting until after the first trimester. Always mention your pregnancy when booking so your practitioner can adapt the session accordingly.

Allergy testing and herbal medicine

Allergy testing

Allergy and food sensitivity testing identifies the causes of conditions such as asthma, IBS, eczema, persistent fatigue and skin irritations. An allergy produces an immediate immune response; a hypersensitivity or intolerance may produce delayed reactions that are harder to attribute without testing. Testing is available with Halina High.

Herbal medicine

Western herbal medicine is the most widely practised form of medicine worldwide. At Chelsea Natural Health, Charles Powell offers tailored herbal consultations treating the whole person — addressing root causes rather than suppressing symptoms. Conditions include digestive complaints, hormonal imbalance, respiratory conditions, skin disorders, fatigue and chronic illness.
