About Betsy Garrett – Psychotherapy, Chelsea SW10

Betsy Garrett is a registered psychotherapist at Chelsea Natural Health, 208 Fulham Road, Chelsea SW10. Psychotherapy provides a structured, confidential and professionally bounded space in which to explore difficult emotions, past experiences and present-day patterns of thought and behaviour – with the aim of producing lasting psychological change and improved emotional wellbeing.

Betsy’s work at Chelsea Natural Health is a natural complement to the physical therapies offered by the rest of the team. Many people who experience chronic pain, stress-related conditions, or persistent physical symptoms have a significant psychological component to their presentation – and addressing this alongside physical treatment often produces better outcomes than either alone. Betsy works closely with colleagues across the clinic and is experienced in working with clients who are also seeing other practitioners.

Psychotherapy alongside physical treatment

Chelsea Natural Health’s integrative ethos means that Betsy’s psychotherapy practice sits alongside rather than in isolation from the physical therapies at the clinic. Chronic pain, for instance, has a well-documented psychological dimension – and patients receiving osteopathy or acupuncture for persistent pain may find that concurrent psychotherapy accelerates and deepens their recovery. Similarly, clients seeing Simon Heale for hypnotherapy and mindfulness, or Adriana Pop for EFT, may find psychotherapy a useful complement to that work. Please discuss whether a combined approach might benefit you when you contact the clinic.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between psychotherapy and counselling?
Both involve talking with a trained professional about emotional difficulties. Psychotherapy tends to be more exploratory and longer-term, looking at deeper patterns and past experiences that shape present-day functioning. Counselling is often more focused on a specific present-day issue over a shorter period. Betsy’s work as a registered psychotherapist encompasses both approaches depending on what is most appropriate for each individual client.
How is psychotherapy different from hypnotherapy?
Psychotherapy works primarily through conscious verbal exploration of thoughts, feelings and experiences. Hypnotherapy, as offered by Simon Heale, uses a state of deep relaxation and focused awareness to access the unconscious mind. Some presentations respond better to one approach; others benefit from both. Please call the clinic to discuss which might be most appropriate for you.
Is psychotherapy confidential?
Yes. All psychotherapy sessions with Betsy are subject to professional confidentiality. The exceptions to confidentiality (which apply to all registered therapists) are situations involving risk of serious harm to yourself or others, or certain legal requirements. Betsy will explain the confidentiality boundaries clearly at the first session.
